Our Mission.

Our Bay Area Iowa Club has four key goals: (1) to support the University, the Iowa Center for Advancement, and Iowa students and athletes at all times, (2) to increase our membership, supporting all University of Iowa graduates, current students, family members and fans across the widely diverse population of the greater San Francisco Bay Area, (3) to host consistent, fun experiences for our members and visitors to the Bay Area, and (4) to promote the University of Iowa to potential students in the Bay Area and to support them on their academic journeys and as they launch their careers. The Club endeavors to reach these goals through sponsoring local game watch events, providing volunteer opportunities, organizing fundraising efforts, and offering networking and mentoring experiences. We intend for a portion of the proceeds of all fundraising efforts to be used to provide scholarships to local students who have chosen to matriculate at the University of Iowa.

    Katherine T Ortega

Katherine was born at UIHC, just steps away from Kinnick (which is one of her favorite places on Earth). Both of her parents completed their graduate degrees in Iowa City while she was a kid, and she spent a lot of time running away from ducks on the banks of the Iowa River and hanging out with the ancient sea creatures found in Iowa Hall. Katherine has lived in San Francisco for the past twenty years, and has practiced corporate and public finance law here for almost all of that time. She has served the Bay Area Iowa Club in many roles since 2014, and assumed the role of Chair of the Board in 2021.
